Movies & hiking
In the romantic comedy movie "Twenty-seven Dresses" (now on DVD), a woman falls secretly in love with her boss who is not aware of her affection. In his first scene, the boss reports that he just returned from hiking Whitney where he set a new personal record for fastest round-trip (10 hours?). Later, the woman's sister pretends to be (among other things) a hiker in order to snare the boss in marriage. I was disappointed there was no hiking scene in the movie. Maybe it got deleted.
Movie people never hike. They don't have a clue.
I vividly remember the scene from Red Dawn where one of the characters throws an overnight backpack at another, as if it weighed two or three pounds. Bothers me twenty years later, especially as the director of the movie was John Milius, Hollywood's consummate gun nut, and he ought to know better about such things.
