They caught him at about Foothill and New York and released him up near Mt. Lukens.

All the way down at Foothill! That cat really was roaming. Marty Wall did a fantastic job. (and I'm sure it wasn't easy with all the crowds watching) Back on Lukens is a good choice I think - the lion will already know where food and water is, and hopefully the hazing of capture is enough to keep him out of the suburbs from now on.

Nope, got a large male lion on 4/13 and 5/16 on Mt Lukens, but no ear tag. I only have cameras in one canyon though. Anyway, your boy seems to have learned his lesson about wandering around in suburbs!
If he finds a couple natural water sources he'll be OK. It's dry this year. The cat in West Lancaster was kind of a surprise.
