I saw that story earlier, unclear as to where they were when injured. I can't picture going from the backbone trail to the ski hut after some kind of incident where I would need a stretcher to get out.

We were out hiking Sunset Peak on the 24th and saw that big LA county sheriff helicopter flying around over towards Baldy. Guess that explains why. Visibility was pretty spotty too.

If he slid down off of the backbone trail, to the south side, he could be sliding right down into San Antonio Canyon, toward the ski hut.

I talked to a rescue team member at the REI Arcadia but he didn't go into much details.
