Just saw a "Rest In Peace" comment on Facebook from one of the folks in the PCT group who posted that "Asabat" had passed, just wanted to pass on my condolences to his family, he was one of the people that always reported conditions on water sources for the "thru hikers" on the PCT.
:( He will be missed

Some of you may have known "AsABat" (Bill Jeffery) who was a PCT hiker and trail angel. He used to maintain the Southern California PCT water reports website

Apparently he passed away over the weekend while out on the PCT in Oregon. He was a real help to those hiking the PCT in Southern California with his dedication to water reports. He will be missed. :(

I am so sorry to hear this news, I last hiked with Bill in 2007 on a group hike to Thor Peak. Afterwards we all met in Lone Pine for pizza before heading home and although I occasionally read some of his posts I never saw him again after that. He was a good person and a strong hiker, my sincere condolences go to his wife and family, he will be sorely missed.

This is really sad news. He was only 54. I always enjoyed reading his posts on the various boards. He will be missed.

That is awfully sad news. Bill was a good man... and still young. We'll all miss him greatly.
