Kudos to Zippetydude for doing the math. Lions eat lots of other stuff besides deer, though - possum, raccoon, rabbit, mtn bikers, etc. So the deer-a-week stat is just an average. Now, they say a mother with kittens will take two deer a week, so that's another variable.
Anywho, San Jacinto is a huge area with lots and lots of space and connections all the way down to Anza Borrego (one collared lion was tracked going from there, up to Palm Springs!) So no problem at all sustaining a breeding population.
Super jealous of the people who saw the sheep takedown! Wow.
