A hike after a nifty storm, but still everything here was almost bone dry.
I would say this is best as a night hike or Feb/Mar hike when the water is running.Comparable misery wise to the Rincon road, this one spares no expense in going the long way to the peak....complete with a loop around the entire peak...actually it was 1.5 turns but I just scrambled the last portion.
At least there is a nice view from the top...360!
No way I was returning the same way, so I head down a steep firebreak that transitioned to XC/good luck to you ending. I ended up at Laurel Canyon(not to be confused with Laurel Canyon blvd) and back all the way on the same trail. Then I went down close to the Pacoima canyon creek to check out the low down on how to get out of there from the river.
The thing about the adventure hike is the suggested time of 4 hours 15 mins seems super hikerish.
Looking over the Santa Clara divide road towards Valencia or ?...some snow.
Theres finally a view uptrail....this is from pk 4345, which is the shorter way to the peak.
Mendenhall peak, temporarily covered in fog....no register or marker..just trash.
This view from the final 1.5 loops to the peak...this part of the trail is also left to die...overgrown to various degrees and in one little place completely washed out, but nothing to be concerned about
Station Fire burned area/Santa Clara divide road....this is the predominant view across Pacoima canyon on the trail.
pk 4403 on the way back
the way down from pk 4403, looking at the "Pinnacles"...all kinds of firebreaks and trails, but none of them are the Mendenhall trail.
Listed topo falls(3 of em in this drainage, but just one shown) between Dagger and Dorothy Canyons
Pacoima canyon....the ending of this as shown is a in the creek hike...hehehe supposedly there is a mine very close to here.
