I hiked upper Dark Canyon over the weekend (see TR) but would really like to hike lower Dark Canyon from ACH to Arroyo Seco. Anyone have any first hand knowledge of the condition of that stretch of the trail? I saw online from the '05 edition of Trails Of The Angeles that there was a washout or something. Of course, a lot has changed since then. Would appreciate any current info. Thanks!

I went down Dark canyon a few years ago, but that was pre-Station Fire. The use trail was steep and a little loose in places, but doable. Post fire? No clue.

Technically the area below ACH is within the closure

Prefire the ORG from CCC ridge to the cyn floor was usable. Below there it was boulder hopping to oakwild

Jason and I hiked the Dark Canyon Road from CCC Ridge down to the confluence of creeks. The trail is moderately overgrown with a few minor tread issues at slides and gully crossings. We spent several hours trimming back plants and tree branches, widening some of the tread, and clearing rocks. We didn't survey the cabin district. It too is probably overgrown.
