How safe is parking overnight at Islip?
Where is the spring thats near little Jimmy? Anyone know the water conditions?

generally safe parking, but as in anywhere... keep anything of value out of sight.
the spring is less than 1/4 mile SE of the campground... very easy to find as the trail is obvious. The water is my favorite in the San Gabriels, and is always running cold, clear and tasty. It's probably the only water source I feel safe not filtering in the entire forest... although, it's still recommended to filter, obviously.
