Pk 3702 Bear Creek 2/21/11

Nice day out with clear views. A couple of rocks and the wilderness sign defaced along Bear Creek. Startled a couple of deer on Mermaid Draw..or who startled who? Got to whats considered the summit of pk3702, which had snow. Started down towards middle mermaid pk, but the brush was too much to even go down...I was thinking there was a 75% chance even Fiskar loopers wont help.

Yeah,although there still is no info about West Fork Bear Creek falls

since it was out of sight.

Nice report AW. Thanks for the beta. Been wanting to do the Mermaids for awhile now. I haven’t been in that area myself. Trying to figure which way to go up. Have you been up Big Mermaids Canyon and maybe try and do peak 4065 from the south? Do you think the brush would be worse then from the north? Or is that canyon even doable?

Its better to chomp at brush then try anything from the canyon...canyon is a hassle to get into past its 10ft waterfall and likely a hassle to get out of, muchless gain elevation. Ive only been to elev 2125 in the canyon though.

Seems similar to what Ive read of past Rattlesnake peak but in this case there is no going around anything...something Im not used to hehehe.

There might be a way from the north to a rock outcropping higher and east of 4065.......but that likely would mean the trip turns to 2 days.

-One thing for sure, any thought of Triplet via the S Ridge without climbing equipment...no way! and getting to the base would be epic bushwacking. That goes for all the other ridges to Twin Peaks on the south side.
