San Gabriels Front Range Thunderstorm

Hey folks. I happened to be in the right place at the right time. A nice little thunderstorm developed over the Mt Baldy area and matured over the San Dimas Experimental Forest before moving into the San Gabriel Wilderness and then out over the foothill communities of Duarte, Monrovia etc. Was in San Dimas to get this photo... The lightning struck on the north side of Glendora Ridge in the San Gabriel Canyon area.

Cool photo! We are hearing lots of thunder here in Reseda. Saw a rainbow earlier.

Outwhere, truth is that I was watching the storm form due north of my position. It became REALLY active to the NW (north of Glendora) with visible strikes every 20-40 seconds. Of about eight attempts to catch the lightning this was the only one I could get. The other photos are only clouds and rain

I was out hiking tonight in Altadena on the trail to Echo Mountain (Sam Merrill Trail). Quite a show that nature put on. Snapped some pix, but I didn't get any lightning bolts on film.

Got a couple of really nice sunset shots though.

And you'll never guess who I ran into tonight. Hint: He's a former member of this forum, and his screen name here was from the USC fight song. He recognized me almost immediately (presumably from pix I've posted here) and said hello. I found him to be friendly but still to be in person much as he was here on the forum.

Yes, but just make sure that Gu has caffeine in it.

I hear a picture of someone leading a child into a closed area of the forest works really well too.

I wuz watching it on Radar as it came over sunland... Seems strange to me as it was moving EAST to WEST

There where some very intense cells in that thing

Matt,

I saw that east to west thing too. I believe it was the remains of a tropical depression/storm from down on the gulf. I've seen that pattern (east to west) previously when other remnants have passed through.

I did a quick hike up Sunset peak yesterday around 4pm. I was on top when a cell came over Ontario Peak then moved west. Just light rain, but there was lightning and thunder. Needless to say, I did some running on the way down.

Drove up GMR tonight after school to watch. SUPER bright flashes until I got to my parking spot, then it was all done.

The system near Redlands kicked in right about then.
