Lets do it. I have a buddy who can get us vehicle access up Coldwater Canyon. We know a guy with a cabin just north of Widman Ranch.

By the way, in your post you mention Hugh's site being down - I contacted his son-in-law, the caretaker, lots of times offering help and eventually he got it back up.
really? in Coldwater canyon or Dry Gulch? I thought there was a place called "smiths cabin" on some topo maps, I wonder if that's it.

great that site is back up, lots of good info. used a sketch map posted there to help get to Stanley Miller

Zé, isn't that structure in Coldwater Canyon? It can be seen from the Iron Mtn trail? Maybe I'm confused here.

Wow. No wonder they don't want to share with anyone. It wasn't like that when I went down that canyon quite a few years ago. It was very rustic with old timey looking cabins.

Zé, it looks like you didn't click on the "Link to this Page" feature. You've just got a link to mapper.acme.com -- so nothing in particular comes up.

That's more like it.

So what's the significance of this structure?

It's called a blazing star. See http://www.summitpost.org/smooth-stem-b ... s-i/658606. I've only seen them in the East Fork, June through August.
