I wanted to see the changes in Haines canyon since the fire. So, since it is still closed, I handed my camera to a small woodland creature and asked it to take some photos for me.

Image

The road has several deep washouts.

Image

The wide streambed is evidence of massively powerful flooding last winter.

The sun rises over the "camelback"

Gate at the start of the Mt Lukens fire road

Image

Regrowth here seems more vigorous than it is in Big T. Probably gets more rain here?

Image

Many fleurs still bloom.

Image

This appears dead, but still felt soft and alive (so I'm told)

Image

And the old wooden plank sign is unharmed!

Image

Mr. Bear has been doing some canyoneering....

Image

...and eating honeycomb...

Image

hanging on

Image

Some places are scoured clean to bedrock

morning

Image

Mr. Bear is eating well

Image

Image

The hillsides took more damage than the canyons

Image

Just one of the many dangers of hiking in a burn area

Image

Someone has been doing trailwork.

Image

Image

This bridge survived fire AND flood!

Image

Strange "mildew" on oaks and maples

Image

Rocks imbedded in trees from the flooding

Image

Looking a little dry

Image

*poof* resprouter!

Image

It's true!

Just because Jake is short doesn't mean he's not going to wear pants.

Nice pix, CM. I've been wanting to get up into that area myself.
