Such an impressive test of human endurance! And there are some cool pics, too.

Isn't that area closed? Or did they get some special permission?

HJ, the runners were there by permit. Many of the trails through the burn area have been reworked by the runners...

The Angeles Crest 100 will be run in two weeks and goes through a portion of the closed areas, I believe. We will be there by permit, as well. If anybody is around Newcomb's Saddle on Saturday, Aug 28 through early morning Aug 29 be sure to drop by and say "Hi". (I am in charge of the Newcomb's Saddle Aid Station.) Our first runner comes in about 4:45 pm and the last runner must have their butts out of the aid station by 3:00 am. We then get a couple of hours sleep and bug out of there in the morning. We're like a MASH Unit :)
