Shuttle wasn't as bad - my sister came and picked us up at in the Bldy Village and we left a car in Fontana.

2.5 miles from acorn to Blue Ridge 2000 gain
1/2 mile on PCT no gain
Drop 300 and gain 2000 for Pine
Drop 500 and gain 1200 Dawson
Drop700 and gain 1100 to Baldy
Blue Ridge to Baldly is only 5 miles according to 1973 Robison
Bear Flats drop 6000 in 6 miles

Total14 miles
6000 ft gain

But the GAIN is TOUGH and feels much further.

Awesome!

And don't forget that extra 300' (2000+2000+1200+1100=6300). That drop down the S face of Dawson is disheartening. All that work and then you drop and have to regain it again. I remember looking at that drop and saying to myself "you've got to be kidding." :D

I actually had to Climb from Dawson saddle back up to the ridge because I left my Ice Axe under a tree when I put my crampons on ...... another 700 ft gain and drop.

the climb from the Dawson/baldy saddle to the top of baldy is a real ass kicker.

Ouch.

If it's any consolation, I left a really nice pair of trekking poles stuck into the embankment where I had parked my car and drove off with out them. Got all the way home, realized my mistake, drove all the way back to the trailhead, and they were gone. Then drove home again. About 45 min drive ea. way, and it hurt to pay good money to buy a pair of poles that I already had. :(

I'm buying GPS enabled equipment from now on... :D
