It's not in the San Gabriels, but I thought some of you might enjoy my pictures from Mt. Whitney this past Saturday. The snow conditions were very good for March, so I was able to move at a good pace. The conditions above the Notch were a little surprising but fun nevertheless.

Great time Mike, what do you figure the distance was considering you had to start 3.25 miles from the trailhead?

Pictures look great, winter/spring still something special in those conditions.

During the mixed conditions did you take the crampons on/off or just leave them on and stay in the snow/ice as much as possible?

Nice report - looks very inviting. Might set that as one of my 2011 late winter goals.

Thanks, Patrick.

Total mileage was 15 with 7,700' elevation gain. I kept the crampons on the entire time above the Notch and stayed on the snow as much as possible. The down climbing was a little tricky, especially on the rocks.
