The Firearms Thread
A thread for those of us who enjoy bullet launchers.
Something interesting, if slightly old. SVI Tiki-T. I love the sights, melted edges, and the fact that it's made of Titanium. Good CCW perhaps. Never had the chance to try one.

I need a 1911. Had a Kimber TLE 2 for a bit. Maybe another Kimber, but with Trijicons instead of Meprolights.

Husqvarna Lahti 9mm Para semi-automatic pistol
Luger P.08 9mm Para semi-automatic pistol
Walther P.38 9mm Para semi-automatic pistol
Bulgarian Makarov 9x18mm semi-automatic pistol
Webley Mk V .455 double-action revolver
Webley Mk VI .455 double-action revolver
Smith & Wesson Model 617 .22 Long Rifle double-action revolver

Smith & Wesson Model 640 .357 Magnum double-action revolver
Smith & Wesson Model 10 .38 Special double-action revolver
Smith & Wesson Model 629 .44 Magnum double-action revolver
Sold my Glock a few years ago. Need to buy another one for, um, business purposes. I don't really like them much.
Actually, I am much less enamored of handguns than I once was. I am quite fond of Soviet (and pre-Soviet) designed small arms, tho. I have seven Mosin-Nagants and five SKSes.

To be honest I am more interested in the self defense training with firearms then in just the pure sporting aspect of shooting. I try to hit the range to stay sharp with skills but I really want to get more into stuff that is taught by the "Systema" guys:
By Konstantin Komarov - Major in the Special Service Police Force Russian military reconnaissance, PhD in Psychology and Professional Bodyguard:
"Systema" revolves around these basic moves:
And can be applied to everything including this:
Sonny Puzikas BEYOND THE FIREARM
Sonny served in Spetsnaz (back in USSR) and recently appeared in the Deadliest Warrior episode (Green Beret vs Spetsnaz):

Spetsnaz won by the way which I had no doubt about but I am a bit biased I guess

Sonny and Wheeler just ran a class in Texas and from what I am reading it was awesome:

Nice collection you have there ... Are you in the firearm business or just an avid collector?simonov wrote:I have a bunch of handguns, but no M1911:

I am trying to find an East German or Russian made Makarov -- they are great, reliable and hold a sentimental value to me ...
I am also looking for an FFL dealer to do a consignment of CA legal 7.62x39 Saiga -- http://www.rifledynamics.com/services.html
Without picking apart Deadliest Warrior, it's just another show trying to compare apples and oranges. US Army Special Forces are primarilly a force multiplier... anyway, I'll stop while I'm ahead.
I'm also more interested in the defensive/"tactical" aspect of firearms than procuring them for other values, such as collecting.
Sorry this wasn't a particularly good post... gotta update my shizz! Damn interwebz exploder 6.0 (old computer being converted into something completely different.)

I'm sort of in the business, but also a collector.mve wrote:Nice collection you have there ... Are you in the firearm business or just an avid collector?
I bought mine when I thought I was going to get a CCW. Compact little beasts.mve wrote:I am trying to find an East German or Russian made Makarov -- they are great, reliable and hold a sentimental value to me ...
But mostly I just love the idea of spending $150 on a high quality handgun. Same with that CZ52.

You didn't get CCW in OC? I thought it's only us LA County folks that get the shaft! I hear it's fairly easy in San Bernardino ...simonov wrote:I bought mine when I thought I was going to get a CCW. Compact little beasts.

Yeah it's just a show. I am in it for historical and entertaining value nothing else -- battle is won by people not computers. I think this quote sums it up really well:TacoDelRio wrote:Without picking apart Deadliest Warrior, it's just another show trying to compare apples and oranges. "Out of every ONE HUNDRED men, TEN should not be here,
EIGHTY are nothing but targets, NINE are the real
fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they the
battle make."
"Ah, but the ONE, ONE of them is a WARRIOR, and he will
bring the others back."

By the way -- Sonny Puzikas is a professional firefighter and looks like he is on a whole new career path in the film industry -- he's currently doing a show "Hit List" with Cuba Gooding Jr.:

I'd like to take some of the classes he teaches before he gets too big and stops giving them
Bill Ruger fan here.
Ruger Mk II 'Target' .22 lr
Ruger 'New Model' Single Six .22 lr (8.5" barrel)
Ruger 'Bisley Vaquero' .357 Mag.
Ruger PC-9 Carbine (w. EOTech Holographic Sight)
Also,
Savage "Stevens Favorite' Single-shot Long Rifle .22 lr
Glock Model 22 40 S&W
My personal favorite is the Bisley. Free-floating cylinder, 1/4# action and a pleasure to shoot out to 25 yds. The Bisley-style grip on the Ruger fits my hand perfectly. Very easy to run a couple of boxes of .357 with no hand probs.
I haven't been to a range in over a year. Don't like shooting indoors. Eh.

I was just lurking Guntards.net
Cool Site! Interesting to read different viewpoints than the typical stuff at Calguns.net
Maybe I'll register, but as it is, I barely post at Calguns...
Anyone here lurk or post at those websites? I noticed "Simonov" at Guntards and at the member list at Calguns...

off topic sorta but, we're planning a trip to Wyoming and relative there said bring the bear spray but not the gun. Seems that grizzlies around that area in late fall/big eating time, are actually attracted to gunshots - thinking they can poach a deer or elk. Mess with one and you might get up close/personal with it's friends too.
Carrying around a .45/70, 12 Gauge, or equivalent would be a pain on a multi-day hike with lots of mileage/elevation gain. You don't realize how cumbersome and heavy a rifle is until you carry one up steep terrain for a few miles. Having to un-sling the firearm and then get a good shot in a hurry & under stress...obie wrote: ↑off topic sorta but, we're planning a trip to Wyoming and relative there said bring the bear spray but not the gun. I'd rather carry bear spray
