Ollestad Memorial Route, Ontario Peak (3/17/2010)
On Wednesday, three of us returned to "Ollestad Canyon" on Ontario Peak to climb the left branch. The climb involved about 4400 vertical feet of elevation gain, including 3000 vertical feet of snow climbing, mostly at 40 degrees but peaking at 50 degrees. The snow was hard and icy for most of the ascent.
Here is my trip report.

Although I don't believe I've met Dave G yet, I swear I could hear him suffering as I read the T/R, Sam.
Impressive, indeed!

Great hike my friends! I am up visiting my daughter and having trouble uploading my pix from here. Drat! got some nice ones. hopefully i will be able to muddle through it later today, but in the meantime... Dave stay off that leg so it will completely heal and hope we can all do another exploratory climb soon. Very fun to be on a "route less taken" and relive a part of history. Many thanks for the invite Sam.
Here are my photos from the St. Patty's day hike up Ollestad Canyon. Nice burn up that beautiful couloir and a privilege to take a route less taken.
Excited explorers ready to go...
The seemingly endless talus slope
Sam ahead as the morning sunlight appears above
Dave 2500k up. Mt. Baldy Road below where we parked and began.
Only thing worse than climbing with an injured calf muscle? A self-inflicted Root Canal!!!
We summited from the northwest instead of the more familiar northeast. Sam.
St. Patrick's Day Summit Pub
Scotch-Irish confrontation (fueled by Jamaican Rum?)
We glissaded down Falling Rock Canyon
Dave.
