On February 15, three of us climbed "The Galena Gauntlet" to Yucaipa Ridge and then traversed to Galena Peak. Here is the trip report.

Does anyone know if this route has been climbed before?

Well, it's likely been done before Sam, but that doesn't diminish your accomplishment of getting up a very cool route for which you had little beta beyond a map. Awesome job guys!

Nice report Sam. I can't believe I missed you guys. I was to the right of you a little bit checking out some new areas.

Galena Gauntlet looks like it'll be pretty nice once the snow consolidates and gets a bit hard.

We'll hit it then.

Thanks everyone. Incidentally, I have heard of one prior ascent now.

I descended this route on skis after traversing from Camp Creek to Galena.
Probably 15 yrs ago in the spring.

Other than the snow being peppered with fallen rocks this was a great route.

Looks like it is in great shape this year---Think I'll revisit it.

Thanks for the great pictures!

Jim: Wow, nice job descending the couloir. How was the skiing through the narrow constriction (which I called the gauntlet)?

It was spring time when we descended this gully and the snow was in ideal spring corn conditions. I side slipped through the narrow spot and had to negotiate around rocks laying on the surface of the snow there.
Getting through that rock funnel as quick as possible was my main concern at the time this may have cost a few style points and certainly some p-tex from my ski bases.

The Camp Creek gully-Little Gorgonio-Galena traverse is nice route in the spring - with a bivy along the way it is a classic local adventure.
