Camera theft in the woods -- caught on camera!

Did the trailcam catch a thief? Adonis Wilson sent this:

I am writing to you in anticipation that you will spread the word around and that this thief may be found...but at least that hikers be aware of the continual frustration in urban interface hiking:

I hiked in Rubio Canyon [Sunday] looking for a trailcam location. I left the camera & my pack (heavy) cabled to a tree and covered with leaves while I hiked farther up canyon. I took everything of value out of the pack, but forgot my Olympus point-and-shoot was in a small side pocket. Returned to find the pack moved, all zippers open, and realized later the camera was gone. I also noticed the tape over the motion sensor on the trailcam had been moved, and out of curiosity, checked to see what the cam captured.

Stupid me for forgetting about the camera - but what the hell??? This is not some punk kid, this is an adult....with reading glasses....hiking....

So please - if you recognize this person, who was in Rubio near the Pavilion today around 11am, LET ME KNOW [presumably by way of the [url="maito:altadenablog@gmail.com"]altadenablog@gmail.com]

There is just a lot of different interests out there. When I read the blog, I was thinking it was just like the forest service committee, where almost everyone was noted and respected, and sometimes you just get a headache! I should have known this could turn offtopic, but was just so incensed about the theft, I jumped on it. Next time, I'll ask before I leap!

Altadena does have a bit of a reputation of being the Berkeley of SoCal.

Man, those people were all concerned about privacy in a place where they have no expectation of privacy according to law.

I hope sending the pics out gets this guy caught. While they won't be able to prove theft because noone actually saw it happen - proving possession of stolen goods should be pretty easy.

back in 6th grade I was a dominant speller, whizzing through all those spelling tests.

then the spelling bee came. went up for my first word, and said: "D I C T H"

epic fail!

your accusation won't stand for 1 sec in a court of law .... reason?
maybe tis was just a curious hiker .. he opened the pack to see what was inside ... you did not catch him in the act of stealing ....

He can walk inside a police station and say "i was just looking ... I opened the camera, but then I left it there ...." you can't prove he is the thief ....

True, when it comes to a court. But, if he has the camera - he's dead to rights on possession of stolen property. And, any judge or jury that sees that video AND he has the camera = two convictions.
