Perhaps Ryan can enlighten me on this. Last Sunday Norma and I hiked up Mt Markham, looking for the 5th class route (AKA "Ramp Route") decribed on SummitPost. I even hauled a rope and a light rack up, but all we found was the typical chossy crap that comprises most of the San Gabriels, with the exception of a couple of short stretches that I would call class 3. Thinking maybe we were too far north, I then traversed around south on the way down (ripping up my arm in the process )--sort of "circumnavigating" the east face--all to no avail.

What gives, is this a myth or am I "navigationally challenged" ?

you and Ryan have fun next weekend and see if you can find some firm rock. just got back from the Sierra and that rock, rocks! even when wet. be careful on that SG choss!
