Icehouse Canyon to the Wilderness Sign. It's pretty short (less than a mile?), but it's cool and shady.

The Pacific Crest Trail north of Big Bear Lake. It runs along the north side (shady side) of the ridge that separates Big bear Lake from Holcomb Valley, and has quite a bit of tree cover. Lots of entry points - Holcomb Valley Road just north of Baldwin Lake, Van Dusen Road, Cougar Crest Trail, Poligue Road (Holcomb Valley cutoff), Fawnskin Road. I've spent a few weekends this spring/early summer revisiting the peaks on that side of the lake, and most are easily accessed from the PCT. You'll find its pretty quiet right now since the thru-hikers passed by in April/May. No water sources, so bring what you need.

Might also look int the PCT on the back side of the San Gabriels Mtns, too.

locally: any trail with snow on it. San J, San G, Icehouse Cyn, Baldy.

in the Sierra: being off-trail and on a cross-country into the backcountry.

on my mtn bike: Porcupine Rim, Moab Utah & Tahoe Flume Trail CA.
