A hiker who was lost and suffering from heat exposure was rescued in Angeles National Forest this evening by a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department helicopter, authorities said.
The hiker was found shortly after 5 p.m. clinging to a tree on the side of a cliff in a remote area near Mt. Williamson above the Angeles Crest Highway. Earlier, the hiker used his cellphone to call his wife and tell her he was lost, out of water and suffering from heat exposure, said Deputy Lillian Peck, a department spokeswoman.
The wife called authorities, who began the search. After flying in the area for more than two hours, the helicopter crew saw the man. With the help of a paramedic, the man was hoisted to the hovering aircraft, Peck said.
