Cool Crag Ridge 20090725
We still can't figure out what to name this feature. It looks cool. We thought of "Bad Influence" while climbing it, since we were unroped and OMFG WTF that's t3h bad.
This ridge is directly west of Kimchi Ridge, the west ridge of Sheep Canyon.
No parking spaces open at 7:2- in the morning. TONS of people. Met up with Ze in the parking lot, as well as Edenooch. Platypi (Kenny) joined us at the trailhead. When I broke off the group to give this a go, Kenny tagged along to do the fun stuff instead of that damn trail to Etiwanda.
The goal was to climb up Kimchi Ridge to scope out the new ridge, probably rapp down to the base of it, and give it a look see. We made it up, and were able to walk off Kimchi Ridge down into the gully separating the two ridges. We ended up climbing the cool ridge. We did not rope up.
Route is a lot of fun 5.2-ish class 4. Hardest move (for me at least) was 5.8-ish, just a move.
Had a great time. I haven't been out in ages, and haven't climbed here in a year or so. Got bloody, dirty, beat up, and it was a blast.
Enjoy them there pics with the captions!
Going up into Sheep Canyon
Starting up "Magical Kimchi" on Kimchi Ridge
Moving up
Kenny moving along a ledge
More view of stuff
The goal is in sight!
Whole buncha pics of the ridge:
Tree
Moving down the gully
Looking up
We got to a thumb of rock, where we started the climb.
Gear
Kenny climbing up low on the route
Looking up the next 'pitch'
Out of the funny crack. Did a knee-jam-bar and earned some blood.
Looking tired with no sleep and whatnot.
Kenny attacking the next step
Kenny atop a block of sorts
Chillin
Kenny
Looking at the real big crag atop Fir Draw
Rock Smiley at the end of the route!
Our ridge from down on Icehouse Trail
Still tired, just woke up. Hopefully I didn't repeat any pics. Blarg

Photobucket usually ain't half bad.
I figured we could call the route "Bad Influence", and I named the ridge "Soba Ridge". Kimchi Ridge is the one we ascended to get a view of the goal route. Kimchi = popular food in Korea. Soba = noodles, popular in Japan.
Open to change if you've got a name you wanna put in!
Here's the route page thus far: http://www.summitpost.org/route/533698/ ... -5-7-.html
