...Taco needs some money. Not much... just money. Just started school, looking for gas money plus the ability to feed myself.

Too ugly for prostitution.
Too risky to sell drugs.

Anyone know of any job openings?

Signed,

Any skills or specialized training (beyond bad-azz climbin' bum :) ) to help narrow it down?

GENERIC SUGGESTION: Friend of mine, a laid-off electrical engineer, got a job at his local Stater Bros Market. Walked in and they had signs posted on all the registers about taking apps during certain daytime hours. He'd been unemployed for 6 months and is glad to have something to pay the bills while riding out the storm. Seen those signs at the store in my neighborhood, too; I'd jump on it if I became unemployed.

Maybe Black Diamond needs somebody to help test their helmets in the field. Seems like you have some experience attracting projectiles.

Heck, we could even volunteer to "help" Taco out in a Projectiles R Us sort of way.

I don't think I've ever been hit on my head. It's always my right arm for some reason.

I guess that means my helmet works REALLY well. Forcefield.

Yeah Jim, get to the top of a route you know I'll be climbing and start rolling big rocks down the couloir.

If you want a job at Black Diamond, you gotta move to Utah:

http://www.blackdiamondequipment.com/about/jobs.php

Unfortunately the current crop of crash test dummies survived, so no openings in the helmet testing department for Taco.

I did forward this to a friend who's also unemployed; he'd qualify for the QE position. He'd love to leave California, and I'd love to have a place to do some 'dirtbagging' in Utah. Some cheap gear wouldn't hurt either!

That would be pretty cool. I'd like to spend some time in Utar.

I'll be in the technology job sector this time next year.

Anyone need brakes done or anything heavy brought up a mountain?

I just this week hired a girl.

On Monday she walked into the office trying to sell us dumpster rental. My sales manager liked something about her (I was out at the time) and he asked if she was looking for a job. She said yes. He asked if she had a resume. She said she had one in her car! We both interviewed her and hired her that afternoon and she came to work the next day.

I suspect she took the dumpster selling job as a way to go around looking for places where she might find better work.

Check out this thread about going door to door looking for work: http://www.badharvest.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=918

Pretty active outbreak of H1N1 right now in Utah:

http://health.utah.gov/epi/h1n1flu/sitrep062409.pdf [PDF]
CDC is now estimating that the novel H1N1 virus will be “Category 2” in severity. They are closely watching the situation in the Southern Hemisphere for validation of this estimate.

A category 2 pandemic has the following characteristics:

* Case fatality ratio of 0.1 percent to less than 0.5 percent.
* Between 90,000 and 450,000 deaths in the U.S. (compared with estimated 36,000 deaths during a typical influenza season).
* Excess death rate of between 30 to less than 150 per 100,000 people.
* Illness rate of between 20 and 40 percent.
* Similar to 1957 pandemic.
