Hiked up to Mt. Deception this morning from the trail head just south of Red Box (at Road 2N52). After reaching the summit, I descended down the west ridge to what I can only describe as a giant bowl or a dried up lake. It's about 0.5 miles west and 500' below the summit of Deception. Very visible on the satellite views.
Heading west along ridge...
View of "Deception Bowl" as I head down ridge...
Someone camped with dog about 100 yds. up Road 2N52...
Wow - that is weird about the guy camping! Matt and I thought that was strange the first time - "wow, he's really getting away from it all...on this PAVED ROAD..."
That is a fun hike. Nice pics! The views along that ridge are beautiful.
I was on this road once before, back in November 2006. When I saw the tent this morning I had a strong feeling of deja vu, but I dismissed it. But now (probably due to the power of suggestion) I wonder if I DID see him back then. I seriously doubt this guy has been there for two and a half years!?!
im pretty sure the homeless guy you seen is named kevin.
i met him and his dog at red box after getting down from strawberry
i hooked him up with some lunch and a few bowls..he told me its pretty crazy living in the mounatins but with his dog he is pretty happy..good guy
