So, uh, say there's this big peak with two summits right smack dab in the middle of the San Gabriel Wilderness... now it takes a good, tiring hike to get in there, but we'll be going UP it from the south. I've scouted this out once before...

So, uh, if anyone wants to go, I've got time and no job, and I think it's about time I go do it. From the south, yes. Big Shiny Buttress.

Probably a 2 day affair (it is a 2 day affair, not one).

Inshallah

Who's in?

Say uh, do you have more description where this shiny buttress may be?

I would, uh, be interested depending what day, er days.

And, uh, is it by any chance the peaks I was trying to describe to you previously? The one you can see from Hwy 39, as you approach the ORV area?

Yes.

Sometime soon. When do you have two days off?

Yes you have more description to this buttress, or yes it's the one I was asking about?

If it's the one I was asking about, you can't go unless I go.

Besides, I still have the beta when I was there 20 years ago. I think. Maybe. Kinda blurry, but sort of remember. :P

Alex, I'm throwing out what little math I used last time. I've found more success through simply doing something than thinking about it lately.

That said, it will be a two day trip, and two hard days I'd say. I think it will be very very tiring.

Yeah, I hear you. We'll just be prepared for a few days of misery then. What technical demands does the route make? Or is that another unknown?

Sorta unknown. I'm planning on going very light, with rock shoes and a helmet making up all of my tech gear. I know of a few routes off the mountain, but I don't know enough about getting up to spoil the adventure.

Might be a really nice 3 day trip, or a busy 2 day.

I'm good whenever, until I have a job. I'm sort of waiting for a package to arrive from a friend.

A simple way to look at the trip:
Hike in
Bushwhack
Scramble
Climb (5th class rock)
Camp (Summit)
Retreat
Probable bushwhack
Hike out

Ah, so you are basically continuing on from your last trip to WF Bear Creek? Any images, google earth or otherwise? Then we could clear up where the location is.

Basically.

That arete is directly south of Twin Peaks, on the northernmost east-west ridge of Mermaid 'Massif'.
