we wake up early and head up hwy2 towards Waterman Mountain. the snow is down to where Angeles Crest meets Angeles Forest Hwy, and ice on the roads was even lower.
We get there at 8:30, 2 other cars in the parking lot and the bottom hut/station is closed. we were pissed. we hiked up to the Village(mid-mountain) and see one guy in a Snow-cat(groomer)
we ask him why theyre not open, cause on the Website(skiwaterman.com) it said they would be. he says "well thats not what boss said"
we asked him if he could give us a ride up to the top of Chair 3 and he agrees. the groomed runs on top were nice, but down the front, the snow (in the tree runs) was not nice. about 1/2 inch of crust on top of 2 feet of dust, so if you broke thru the top layer, you were stuck in very very dry powder. we rode down to the car, dissapointed, but still having a little fun reinacting the scenes of the greatest mountain movie ever, Cliffhanger.
We got to the car at noon. We drove to Tujunga road, then Angles Forest Hwy north to Vincent, a nice town on HWY 14, took 138 to Wrightwood, and skied Mt High for 2-3 hours.

THIS IS REDICULOUS: $64 to ski Mt High(worst resort ever) on a weekday???!!!??? im glad i bought a ticket in the parking lot for $5-- well worth the 10 or so runs i got in.

Love the photos, looks fun.

Mt. Baldy is a fun local ski area also, much better terrain than mt high.
