Thanks!!

Re: Ojai: Trailhead auto burgular arrested :D
Car break-ins at trailheads are rampant. Never leave anything visible in your car. Next time you're at a trail-head, take a look at the ground in the parking lot. See all that small green glass covering the entire area? Yea, that's all car door glass. Thieves find a car with a wallet or something th...

Re: Blue Ridge Road (3N06)
Historic no-snow winter for the San Gabs (with 2nd place being last year...and 3rd being the year before....., etc.); so, there's ZERO snow on Blue Ridge. Anyone know if the gate is still closed? I'd like to head up there for some "winter" car camping if not.

Question about Mtn Bikers on SG trails
Okay, I'm an AVID mtn biker. I was a mtn biker for a decade before I got into hiking and camping. I've been biking in the SGs for 15 years now. Well, over time (aka got older), I've begun to notice that there are a lot of trails that really (if I'm being honest) just aren't proper for mixed use. The...

Re: Uh oh! Hip trouble??
Thanks for the comments/thoughts/info fellas. I appreciate it. It's pretty early to be pushing the panic button (only felt the pain once after all)....but I know several people who had their hips "redone" in their late 40s. I would think that that pretty much takes you right out of the hik...

Uh oh! Hip trouble??
Okay, I'm 44, in good shape, always been an athlete......my "natural" weight is around 235, but when training, I can get down to a very lean 200-205. I've never had a problem with my hip/s. Yet today, I was cruising around the Rose Bowl before the game......Strava said I walked a total of ...

Samsung Galaxy with a black rubberized protector. Left right ON the Dawn Station plackard on the road up to Mt Lowe camp. It's locked and in "airplane mode"....so I can't even call it. Went back up there this morning and it was already gone.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Where to buy replacement laces??
Figured it would be a piece of cake to find anything you want on the internet. WRONG. I have a pair of Merrell Monarch boots. I measured the laces to 88" each. Unfortunately, as fare as I can tell, there is no such on earth...not even close....let alone in red. How hard could it find a vendor o...

Re: BALDY - Archive of Mt. Baldy-related Discussions
Fantastic day to be out there. But at 1:00, it had to be 10-15 degrees and 30+ mph wind on top. Planned on having a beer and soup up there....NO WAY! Brutal. Cheesed it to the notch.

When would you NOT use micro-spikes?
Just got back from Baldy. Went up Manker and down the backbone. Above the hut, it was mostly snow-covered, and slick in many spots. On the backbone trail......NO WAY you can do it without at least some type of spikes. So, I'm curious how many of you would use micro spikes on steep and ice, where a s...

Re: best rout to Mt Lowe summit?
Thanks! Okay, so it looks like the West Trail (upper Sam Merril) is significantly shorter than the East Trail (that I've done....and which seemed to go on forever). Thanks all! and thanks for the map. Fortified- I've done it from Echo and also from Millard Canyon. What I'm talking about is from the ...

best rout to Mt Lowe summit?
Just a quick question.....East trail or west trail?? I've done it from the East, which seems to be about 20 miles, and takes me through Anaheim (okay, maybe that's an exaggeration....but it does seem to go on forever!). I've also done it from the west, via Tom Sloan saddle, and a free-climb "sc...

Packer Greg, that's very interesting! I ran into a guy 35-45 I guess.....used the word "score" a lot. Didn't mention anything about acid though. I talked with him, thinking he was just an outdoorsman. Eventually, it dawned on me. He was nice enough however.

I don't want to say where.....and it's not a huge thing....but a little awkward if you want to camp. Anyone else?? I'm talking about the San Gabs.

THANKS everyone! !! I enjoy car camping from time to time in order to just "get away" yet have everything I need (even some work)...and perhaps do it with zero pre-plan. Also, I like to test new equipment. It's a fast n easy way to get out there! I haven't tried Chilao...but have mtn biked...

Re: More abandoned camp fires.......still FLAMING HOT
IF YOU OR ANYONE KNOWS... 1) When did it open?.... 2) Can you go in all directions from there 3) If a campfire is still hot, what happened to the (grouchy) ranger that lived there? I think it opened back up as soon as the "shut down" nonsense was over, and the gates on Chaney Trail were o...

More abandoned camp fires.......still FLAMING HOT
Drove down to Millard Camp today around 4:00 PM. When I got down to the camp sites.....I found it 100% deserted. However, one of the fire rings had a very large piece of wood in it. It was not only still "hot"....but you couldn't get within 2' of the pit without feeling intense heat. The s...

I want to get in one of my cold weather campings up at Guffy (maybe Blue Ridge....depending). Re: Gabrielino Trail (Big Santa Anita - West Fork - Arroyo Seco)
I haven't been on Ken Burton in a few years....but from what I understand, it's essentially no more. I was going to bike it the other day, and take the gabrieleno back down to JPL. It was very rough going 5 years ago.....so I figured it would be ridiculous now. I thought Oakwilde was okay though? Ma...

Re: Staying warm (3 season-ish) without bag?
So, I ended up buying a new (3rd) bag. This one's rated to +5 (which means probably 20....but we'll see as I'll test in on Lowe soon). I also bought some Tyvek for a footprint, and also some more Tyvek for a rain fly on my 1-banger tent. Not sure I'll often bring the tent unless rain is possible (ai...

Yea, thanks Wu...I've read that before, but just revisited it based on your link. Looks like it's a bit of a "wing it" no matter what. I know where to start.....and when the elevation stops rising, I'm there. Guess that's all I need Should be fun. Will post a TR.
