I assume it is but rather know in advance than find out the hard way. Caltrans shows it is but we all know how reliable they are LOL

He was also very concerned about the cost of SAR that he or his family might have to pay so he wanted to try and make it out on his own. I'll take this opportunity to chime in. Rescue is free! Wait, it is?! So, if the chopper flies you out, you won't get charged?! Not that I ever plan on using it b...

Re: Another Accident on Baldy - 12/27
Wow, another one! Yeah, conditions are dangerous right now. We went up last Thursday and climbed two chutes, both of them being pretty icy and firm. I was wearing regular backpacking boots and it was definitely very tiring on my legs and feet. I pretty much powered through the last steeper stretch b...

Re: Mt. Baldy rescue: 12/23
We went up the Baldy Bowl today (we were the only group beyond the hut all day) and came across a broken crampon halfway up. Not sure what type it was but the teeth were pretty short; with the hard pack snow, I can imagine those not being sufficient for enough traction. Another victim of aluminum c...

Hey! Too bad you didn't stop me and talk some sense into me! Oh well ... it was pretty cool anyway. I got a real kick out of reading Chris Brennen's report last night. It's truly amazing he got a bike all the way down the East Fork. I wonder if that's when he got interested in canyoneering. I proba...

Can't believe I just missed you Rick! I was on BP the same time you were. I remember vaguely thinking: this guy looks like he's been going for a while; sort of looks like Rick Kent. Doh, it was you!! Twin Peaks Trail
Hey guys,
Has anyone been up to Twin Peaks recently? Wondering if it's completely snow free now? I have a friend tag along without snow skills. I'm pretty sure it should be dry but wanted to check anyway.
Thanks!!!

Thanks! Just looking for a quick jaunt up. I'll just throw the crampons in the pack in case I decide to go higher than the hut.

Is the trail itself pretty much snow free now? Thinking about a quick jaunt up but don't really feel like dealing with snow this weekend...
Thanks!

They listed the "chains or snow tires required" a while ago too. It was a joke! A patch of snow here and there. I wouldn't worry about it. I've never seen them enforce it anyway...

I totally agree. I missed a few good pictures on the summit as I couldn't expose my fingers any longer to the cold.Rob wrote:luciano, nice photos. It's not easy snapping pictures when fingers work at 20%, and you're trying not to drop the camera, a glove, or a trekking pole.

Re: Angeles National Forest Closure - October 23
But don't judge things by what is happening near the coast. That is typically where one finds the good air, but Santa Anas and fires result in lots of smoke in places like Long Beach True! Most of the time, air is great where I live (except now). Looks like the winds will shift back to the south th...

Hey Augie! Great meeting you too! We actually spend a decent amount of time on the summit trying to identify everything in our surroundings. Looks like it was even clear enough to see part of the southern Sierra. Also looked for a summit register but didn't see any... We made pretty decent time on o...

Well, we decided to to Will Thrall peak and keep Pallett for when we want to do the loop. Very nice day out! A little breeze with warm sunshine. This a great training hike; lots of up and downs and a good short steep section up Will Thrall. I actually ran pretty low on energy (didn't bring a lot of ...

You could do this but instead of going to to manker flat, go down to the village and back upRick Kent wrote:I'd say that's the toughest one though this version was harder:
