Re: RE: The Crowd Funding link below the banner

If a contribution is needed to migrate the forum to another platform, I'm in.

Is there any way to backup everything that is on MYFF in case of a transfer elsewhere? I would hate to lose all the old posts and have to start over.

Charging for rescues

This article about Mt Baldy rescues recently appeared. http://www.sbsun.com/lifestyle/20170317 ... ail-safety I learned something new in this paragraph. Out of county residents have their home counties billed for rescue costs - not the victims, but their county governments. The estimated average cos...

Re: Winter Creek, Hoegees, and Loos

I lament the days when the only way you heard about these plaecs to hike and camp was if you bought Robinson's guides. Now every low life loser scumbag knows about these places because of the internet and social moronathon sites and they drive up and shit all over the place. People suck. Well, isn'...

I spent Earth Day of last year pulling Madagascar Periwinkles out of a state park. Then, I noticed Home Depot selling them in pots. Sometimes you can't win.

Re: Bald Eagle nestlings

I know that's a lot of zoom in the pic but they look pretty large already. How big are they when finally departing home? The lens used was 500mm plus there was a lot of cropping. I was surprised at how big the young birds are. It takes them 2 1/2 to 3 months to reach the point of flight. They becom...

Bald Eagle nestlings

The bald eagles that nest in my local park, Seabranch Preserve, hatched three eggs this season. The hatchlings can't fly yet, but occasionally flap their wings. The nest is maybe 50 feet above ground at the top of a sand pine. The distance from the trail to the tree is about 200 feet, all of it impe...

Doesn't this apply to only those people who bought a pass in January or February 2016? The pass is good for 12 months from purchase, not a calendar year. If you bought one in June, 2016, it's good until June, 2017.

Re: Etiwanda ridge

I don't know if it would be legal or desirable, but there are gasoline powered brush cutters. You could whack a path through the thorny chaparral fairly quickly. Here in Florida, the rangers use them to keep trails open through the saw palmettos and other under brush. In this subtropical climate, th...

Are you anywhere near Stone Mountain? Actually, we live on the Florida east coast in a little town called Jensen Beach. It's a 500 mile drive to reach a place that is 1200' above sea level and not flat. I'm going broke buying airline tickets for our trips to the Sierra and Death Valley. We have rel...

Pine Mountain, Georgia

There might be more interest in a root canal than a Georgia hike. But, it's been a few days since the last report. So, I thought I would toss this one in. We visited Warm Springs to see Roosevelt's Little White House. The nearby F.D. Roosevelt State Park offered some nice hikes though wooded areas w...

Read the article carefully. It does not say that any course of action is definite. “We are preparing the engineering design and environmental studies in support of this effort,” said Lauren Wonder, a Caltrans spokeswoman, in an email. They aren't actually doing a design or studies. They are just &qu...

The spider looks like a tarantula. It's amazing what is tucked away in the San Gabes. People have been in those mountains for a couple of centuries now. A gasoline powered weed whacker with a blade instead of a string will clear a lot of trail in a hurry. The picture of the moon over fog filled vall...

The bears that attacked may have been mating. From the LA Times:
Department of Fish and Wildlife spokesman Andrew Hughan said in an email that a game warden believed the bears “may have been a mating pair that was interrupted.”
