Re: June Lake
The bad thing about being in Florida vs. California is the extra travel expense to get to the Sierras (or Death Valley): plane tickets and vehicle rental. So, I try to plan everything in advance to get the most bang for the buck. I tend to be ambitious about what we can do. That way, we can adjust o...

June Lake
We were in June Lake at the end of August. The smoke was not bad. It was clear until late afternoon when a little haze and smoke smell would drift in. Coming from flat Florida, we didn't try anything strenuous. On the first day, we went to Yosemite to hike the Pothole Dome trail to the Tuolumne Rive...

Re: Triplet Rocks from below via Bear Creek - trip report and photos
Oh, anybody got experience with these tickets? I can ignore it, right? There're no facilities at that trailhead I got one once in Icehouse Canyon in spite of having the hang tag displayed. Cue up Three Blind Mice. I took a picture of the tag and mailed it in asking to have the citation cancelled. I...

Re: Mosquito Flats to Ruby Lake
Thanks for the pictures and the report. It's such a beautiful area. At least the trails you hiked look clear. We are scheduled to be in June Lake in 10 days. Hopefully, it won't be too smokey.
Any altitude sickness issues? Mosquito Flats is the highest trailhead in the Sierra, 10,250'.

Cloud's Rest is a classic Yosemite hike. Thanks for posting the pictures. By the way, when we did the hike, it was a drought year. Most of the little creeks had dried up. But, the unnamed lake still had plenty of water.

Re: GOLDEN CANYON, ZABRISKIE POINT & RED CATHEDRAL RIDGE
It has been many years since we did the Golden Canyon - Gower Gulch loop. The "no trail" signs are more recent. The hills were all being marred by use trails which spoil the view from Zabriskie Point. I imagine that the signs are trying to keep the ridge lines more pristine as well as prev...

If you don't get lucky in the permit lottery, you can always try for a "no show" permit at the visitor's center south of Lone Pine. Unclaimed day hike permits are handed out the day before and overnight permits the morning of. If more people want a permit than are available, then a mini-lo...

I keep thinking about the case of the French couple who died in the White Sands summer heat a couple of years ago. Only their young son survived because they gave him extra water. The parents died apparently without realizing what deep trouble they were in. The son said his father kept telling him &...

We spent 4 days hiking around Mammoth Lakes. We had been there only once before in 2008 when we visited the Devil's Postpile. Our first day, we did a light hike to Rainbow Falls to get used to the altitude. The San Joaquin River is flowing from right to left in this view. At the left side is the bri...

What software is the Mt. San Jacinto board using? It looks more like the old MyFreeForum than tapatalk. If there is a cost, I think contributions could be raised to cover it.
