Re: Ice House Canyon 5 Peaks
Hey Taco. Actually, the weather was pretty nice with cool air and a good breeze most of the time. Going up/down Cucamonga was a bit of a cooker though. The views out east from Etiwanda were fantastic. Great group of people! Fun times. Thanks to everybody who came along. My photos: https://www.flickr...

That was a great adventure Norma! My first time backpacking in about 4 years. Great photo's like everybody says. That's why I don't bother posting mine! I can see why you love that Red Lake area.
Congrats on 3 fourteeners in a week. Outstanding!

Thanks for the T/R. Bear Canyon is one of my favorite areas. I wonder what kind of shape the trail camp is in?
How far did you get up Bear Canyon before you came upon Yogi's camp?

That was quite a day Norma and Jim. My first time up the MR, and Jim’s too. Thanks for showing us the way Norma. Really! Jim, you were tireless breaking trail, especially when the snow turned yucky. As for “melting down”, Norma, I think you just did a better job of expressing how we all felt at that...

Re: Man shot to death at Chantry
Apparently, the Chantry murder suspect called by cell phone and confessed to the murder and said he would come down the Mt. Wilson trail (Saturday evening, I believe) and turn himself in. That didn't happen, so law enforcement (along with help from SAR) are advising people at trailheads (Mt. Wilson,...

Hi Dave: That was a fun day indeed! Great way to get the cobwebs out of the snowshoes (except for the postholing). I definitely recommend that trip. Looking at the zoomed baldy photo, I'm convinced those climbers are waving at us! They have great eyesight to compliment their hand to hand combat skil...

Norma and I hiked thru there on 11 of 09 before the "trail closed" sign was posted. In fact, some weeks later, I was going by Sturtevant camp when they were installing the sign.

Re: Telegraph Peak South Couloir 12-31-10
Dave, Patrick. What a great way to finish out 2010! I think we encountered every type of snow condition that there is, up the trackless couloir. Calm and sunny in the canyon and big time winds along the ridge. Another 2' of snow would have been nice to avoid the bushwhacking, but I'm not complaining...

Re: A quiet day up Icehouse Canyon 12-26-10
Hi Tracie: The shovel thingy works quite well. I doubt that its a substitute for a real shovel, but it seems to move a lot of snow fairly easily. It weighs about 6 oz. and easily slips in the pack. Some reviews claim it is good for digging snow caves. Was telling Patrick that I dug out a nice seat i...

Re: A quiet day up Icehouse Canyon 12-26-10
Hey Patrick! It's a plastic goodie for moving snow. No substitute for a real shovel, but way better than nothing. I went on the lee side of the ridge and dug myself a little seat, and then used it to sit on. It weighs very little and easily slips into a pack. Dave: There are tons of water everywhere...

A quiet day up Icehouse Canyon 12-26-10
Sunday, I headed up Baldy way. Signs warned of a closed road up ahead. Just past the village, there was a checkpoint run by the County of San Bernardino. I got to speak with “the guy” who evidently was in charge of the whole situation. He assured me that the road would be closed until New Years. So,...

We were supposed to go straight up canyon by the Hellcats, but my routefinding skills kicked in and we ended up on the Baldy Bowl side
