Decided to purchase the inReach. I have used it on the Ski Hut Trail, and in the local Chino Hills State Park. Works as advertised. Pleased with it so far. Only weighs 8 oz. 4/30 Went late (8:30 am). Light clouds, but mostly sunny with some wind. No snow on the trail. Some patches around and beside the trail. Summit pleasant and breezy.

I have a ACR MircroFix that fortunately I have not had to use. I recently bought DeLorme's inReach. It uses the Iridium satellite system to send text messages. It also connects to an Android phone via bluetooth. It also has an SOS mode. Company has great support. It requires a minimum subscription ...

I've used it in Peru, the Sierras, and Africa. Never have gotten any GI illnesses.

I ran into one near the top of Register Ridge. Very early in the morning, very chilly. It wasn't moving, just solar charging.
