Decided to purchase the inReach. I have used it on the Ski Hut Trail, and in the local Chino Hills State Park. Works as advertised. Pleased with it so far. Only weighs 8 oz. Planning on using it on a High Sierra Trail loop and later on a Jackson Hole to Lake of the Woods romp. I hike solo and it app...

4/30 Went late (8:30 am). Light clouds, but mostly sunny with some wind. No snow on the trail. Some patches around and beside the trail. Summit pleasant and breezy.

I have a ACR MircroFix that fortunately I have not had to use. I recently bought DeLorme's inReach. It uses the Iridium satellite system to send text messages. I've used it in Peru, the Sierras, and Africa. Never have gotten any GI illnesses.

I ran into one near the top of Register Ridge. Very early in the morning, very chilly. It wasn't moving, just solar charging.
