Re: On the Road to Mammoth Lakes CA, Nov 27 2015

Just saw your photo. Quite a Majestic Mountain all covered in snow. I have still never been here yet and I enjoy taking pictures and sharing my adventures (usually on Facebook) so I can certainly appreciate what you have shared here. Thanks for sharing! Hope you have a lovely safe time. Post more ph...

Re: Human Remains Keep Turning Up In The ANF

I appreciate your sharing that information. As morbid as the news is. When most of us think of heading to the hills because its the most life giving: green vegetation, flowing water, natural setting w/out human interference, its a sad reminder that not everyone uses an "escape" the same wa...

Good question! I was thinking the same thing...although I am leaning on Joshua Tree National Park. Mountains... Draw backs: trees, mountains obstruct views weather? cloudy/very cold over night (be sure to check weather before you go) Good things: Fabulous weather during day. More shade options and h...

Re: Six Day Ordeal in the Sierra

Thanks Hiking Jim for the article post and the info about a Personal Locator beacon. I googled out of curiosity to see what they cost and what they look like. It seems you can get them at REI or other online stores and the prices vary depending on what you are looking for in type/style but not too h...

Re: Now that's a GREAT 'tree house' !!!

Hmmm, I don't know, that house looks like it was impaled. I wonder how the house can grow with the tree trunks as they widen...probably will ruin house roof and floor right? I have seen some incredible high up tree houses that are rentals in other states. The idea is actually very cool indeed. But I...

Didn't expect that. Too funny.

I have seen those helium balloons around too. I suspect they likely "got away" from the owner and finally landed when the helium gave out.

Thanks for sharing. That is funny.

They are a similar color and if they felt similar without too much noticeable height difference one probably wouldn't notice when in a hurry to put them on.

Hope you had a real nice hike.

Re: Adventure Pass

I would likely call up some local ranger stations in the area close to where you want to go and ask if they have them to save yourself a trip out of the way. Another idea is purchasing online, but they don't offer the second car discount option here (usually been just $5 more for adding a second car...

You can also get answers to government questions by calling 1-800-FED-INFO (1-800-333-4636), 8 AM - 8 PM (Eastern Time), Mo...

Interesting story... 10 days missing. I wonder who reported her lost? A relative, a boyfriend, a caregiver? No one goes to the forest to "clear your head" without taking proper camping gear, food, water, and clothing etc. Sounds like a desperate situation (fleeing abuse?) or more likely po...

What details were messed up/missing or exaggerated or under rated?

Found a discrepancy in the article however: "At 47, Alt's square-cut build is starting to soften a little at the corners. Yet he still looks like a man born to wear the stiff cop's mustache that is his most prominent feature." Then we read: "Alt left the military in 1972, so dishearte...
