Re: General Conditions

I was up there yesterday for about 8 hours before we pulled the plug around 10PM because of intense lighting strikes. I will post a TR but there is an insane amount of snow!! It is almost pointless to measure because there is so much. Numerous signs of slough avalanches including many which totally ...

Nice Taco. You almost had me
I was just curious if anyone of our members were ski hut hosts. It will be a popular weekend up there for sure.

Breaking Trail

Is anyone interested in breaking trail this week up Baldy?

I am available anytime after Thursday at 1PM till Sunday and would like to see what the storm has left us. I am open to a day hike or an overnighter, I have a storm worthy tent (anyone have keys to the hut or know if it's open?)

And so the route he climbed was further to the west (left) than even this picture shows? Is your route on here zach? They all look so much fun that I just ...

What is it with those people?! Most people dread shoveling snow away from their vehicle but here people spend hours packing their truck or mini van roof rack full of ice.

4 of my friends camped out on the summit of baldy last night. they said about 6" to a foot came down... apparently another group on the summit didn't fare so well... their tent collapsed. Nice! I have weathered some of the best storms the last two seasons but I have never done it on the summit...

Finally a REAL storm!

The plan is to head up Register Ridge Tuesday night with my friend and spend the night around 8,400 ft in the flat area before the class 3 section. Supposedly the snow should be piled 2 feet high by then and temperatures sub zero. I have been waiting for 9 months for this! I will post pictures after...

Re: Long free hanging rappels -locally-

DON'T practice at the Quarry. Loose on top. High risk of knocking rocks. Even on a weekday or if you are "off to the side". Good luck with your training. I would have to disagree about it being loose or dangerous to either yourself or those below. Now I know that some parts are but this s...

Re: Long free hanging rappels -locally-

I am surprised nobody mentioned the Riverside Rock Quarry. It is just off the 60 freeway on Valley Way. It is open to climbers as it is a very popular sport climbing location which offers near 200 feet of granite to play with. There is easy access to the top of the cliff from the back and I have rap...

Re: SNOW - Questions, Forecasts & Reports About Snow

where did you get 39 degrees from. The Notch recorded a low of 30 with a current temp of 37. Which would have the current snow level at about 9,500 feet. There is still hope especially with the bulk of the storm coming in tonight.

simply looking at the miles that would be one long day! You say 35 miles are ride-able with a conservative average of 7mph that is 5 hours with out stops plus another 35 miles at 3 miles an hour (carrying a bike) :? is 11.6 hours. So that is over 16.5 hours without stopping. That is sweet ride and h...

Late TR from Saturday morning trip up the Bowl. We took the couloir furthest to the left known as The Dare. Beautiful sustained 45 plus deg. We topped out just as dawn broke around 6 AM. Snow was ideal---very firm. I will let the video do the rest of the talking. Of the countless times I have been u...

Hey Mike- My friend Ben and I (Peter) were the ones who greeted you as you topped out from the bowl. You said the winds were light? I was getting pushed around up there and ran for cover after topping out. It was nice to meet you and look forward to another run-in.
