Re: San Sevaine Road (1N34)
1N34 has been "officially" closed for the season, till September that is. The gate has not been open for the last six or eight weeks. However, you are welcome to walk or bicycle to the campground any time of the year.

Re: Cucamonga Canyon
If they could keep out the destructive elements of society, it would not come to this, here or elsewhere. Have you seen what damage has been done there lately? It really stinks, wealthy people, water sources, wildlife concerns, fire danger or not.

Re: Middle Fork Lytle Creek - Cucamonga
Thanks for the nice trip report and photographs. Your Jeep looks nice, I hope you are enjoying it. I own a 06' LJ Rubicon and enjoy it very much. I too found it interesting they had opened the gate to 1N34 sometime last week after it had been closed since Jan 15th. I was miffed that it had been clos...

Any info on Bonita Falls/Lytle Creek Rescue, Friday AM
Hi,
I'm just curious, but, does anybody here have any information about the helicopter rescue operation at the upper portion of Bonita Falls in Lytle Creek this morning? It was spectacular action to watch. Thanks.
Tim

Re: Misc. News (Archive)
Hi there, For those who might get out into this neck of the woods. Sheep Creek Rd. (3N31) is open from Lytle Creek Rd. to the base of Gobblers Knob. The road is in great condition. It had been closed since the Sheep fire around 2008. The Sheep fire also closed that length of the PCT coming up from S...

Re: Things in the Trees - Icehouse Canyon
Your canyon images and efforts are greatly appreciated. I believe that young snake is labeled a California Striped Racer. If you are quick enough to catch one, then you're likely to be quickly pissed/crapped on too. It kinda smells funky, but it's the price the snake exacts for having the hell scare...

It could be an ant, but, it was the lack of a third body segment that swayed me towards beetle.

Re: San Sevaine Road (1N34)
Hi all, Please forgive my late report on 1N34 road conditions. I know some of you have personally walked the upper sections of this road and know that some sections could be difficult in a car. If you want to drive the entire distance to the Cucamonga Peak trail head. I would recommend at least a hi...

Great images and trip report.
The critter may be a type of Hairy Beetle. I've seen them near the North side of Lake Arrowhead.

Re: San Sevaine Road (1N34)
Thanks MtnMan, You are absolutely right about checking with the Lytle Creek Ranger Station before attempting the trek. The road normally opens soon after Labor Day and will stay open until a goodly amount of snow falls. However, they may choose to close the road to the public for washouts or other h...

Re: San Sevaine Road (1N34)
As of 9-11-11 1N34 is open to Joe Eliot Tree Memorial Campground from Lytle Creek Rd. I did not discover that it was open until this afternoon. I grabbed something to drink and took my Jeep up about 3.5 miles to a scenic view above Coyote Canyon which eventually sheds into Etiwanda flood control cha...

Re: Hikemageddon - Smith Ridge Fail
Thanks for the reply. That is the exact ridge I was inquiring about. On the map you posted, there is an image link (along the same ridge) to a view up the ridge revealing the switchbacks I described. Thanks for the great link accounting the details of the trail you took. If things go in my favor, th...

Thanks for the detailed trip report. I am fond of the Middle Fork of Lytle Creek. However, I have never hiked it all the way to the saddle, let alone to the peaks.

Re: Hikemageddon - Smith Ridge Fail
Hi, I've been lurking around your fine forum for some time when I found this thread concerning my neck of the woods. The gate at the junction of 1N34 and Lytle Creek Road typically opens Sept.1st for hunting and recreation, however, it its subject to closure when snow, rain or other conditions warra...
