Re: Mt Wilson trail fatality

Sad. RIP. Do I remember another rock-head fatality on the Echo Mtn trail not too many years ago? Be careful out there.

Re: Is anyone making small daypacks with daisy chain loops?

So I put my old Flash 18 through the washing machine inside out and I'll keep going with that. If I'm out in conditions ...

Re: Is anyone making small daypacks with daisy chain loops?

I've had 2 Flash 18s, hard not to continue, but reviewers are right about the waterproof coating flaking off - that's why I need to replace.

I also found the Gregory Nano 18 H2O, which doesn't have a daisy chain, but it does have 4 loops.

Nice. Thanks. I had in mind no padding, but if something has to give, maybe that's it.

Is anyone making small daypacks with daisy chain loops?

Subject says it all. Like 16-20l. Current style seems to be "smooth".

Re: Kenyon Devore and Rim Trail

I was at Mt Wilson today and this closure sign was up at the trail beginning, despite it being clearly marked open at https://www.fs.usda.gov/sites/nfs/files/r05/angeles/publication/alerts/05-01-25-09%20Eaton%20Fire%20Closure%20Map.pdf
Did they just forget to come pick up the sign?

Re: Missing hiker

Yeah, very weird flyer.
Story through the grapevine I got is the friend she was hiking with got ahead and then couldn't find her and alerted SAR. Theory is she missed a turn and got lost.

Nuetzel is an old(ish)-time Sierra Madre name. An area in the NE part of the city is known as the Nuetzel tract.

Re: Keller Peak Fire Lookout

Normally no, data transfer would be automated*, often by cell modem nowadays in remote sites in the western U.S. like these. But fire or other disaster could affect power/comms without destroying the station. So eyes are needed to confirm what's gone on and whether return to service is feasible ...

Keller Peak Fire Lookout

USFS confirmed the station at Keller Peak was destroyed in the Line Fire.
One near Buck Point is likely also a casualty of the Bridge Fire, but nobody has laid eyes on it yet.
