Re: Brown Mountain Loop

Can you link to the AI's or MTB source for the name? I can't find it anywhere. According to this MWBA history page, Ken Burton rode horseback patrols in the Arroyo Seco, but they don't mention him doing trail work or having a dog. Maybe the guys on the MWBA crew will know...

Re: Brown Mountain Loop

Anyone know the lore behind the name "Wella's Peak?" Around here we usually refer to minor bumps by their elevation profile, such as Point 2999 or Point 3111, depending on which bump you consider to be "Wella's." Also, calling it a "peak" is a bit much considering its sub-300' prominence. Besides, I ...

Thanks for the report and photos. If I ever meet a genie and he grants me wishes, I'm going to use one on you and make you eat and drink properly on these trips. You scare me with your heart issues. I'm glad you saw a rosy boa. I've only seen one as well.

Thanks for the report and photos. It's a pretty rocky area, so that and the moisture often saves some of the higher zones. It would be interesting to see if some of that sediment has cleared out yet

Thanks for the report and photos. And thanks for placing a sticker on the register box. The thing about going to Ross is that I kept thinking of the return climb, so it was a mental drain in addition to the physical aspect. But at least there wasn't any poodle dog back then. Seems like this hike ...

Thanks for the report and photos. I too dreaded the return climb over Baden-Powell, when I hiked this route many years ago. I ran out of water and my hands started going numb. But I met a friendly couple on the PCT who fed me soup and I lived to tell the tale, haha.

How plausible is it that she made that sequence of mistakes? Each individual mistake is plausible, but all of them together? <shrug> I have no idea how to judge the mind of a lost person in distress.

Admin editing posts

Sometimes I edit posts in order to trim unnecessary quotations. It is not necessary to quote an entire post to which you are replying, and doing so clutters up the thread. It's easier, however, to do the editing myself rather than to train members on the proper quoting etiquette. So, please carry on ...
