Re: Baldy summit vandalism
I agree - it's not vandalism - it's just a different point of view. It's not "just a different point of view." It's an evil point of view. These people are either ignorant vandals or pure life-haters. In either case, they represent a certain degree of evil on the mountain. The people who ...

Re: Lone Tree-Idlehour Trail Loop
I have updated the Lone Tree trail info at Everytrail.com. There is a detailed description of the route and several pictures. http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1539441 There are three ways to access this trail. David described the route starting behind 1101 E Loma Alta. It is also poss...

Re: Rubio Cyn. to Echo Mtn.: 07-22-2012
If anyone's interested, next weekend I'll be going up the Lone Tree Trail from Rubio Canyon to Panorama Point on Saturday or Sunday depending on the weather. Hopefully Saturday. I will be starting early (around 8AM), traveling at a leisurely pace, perhaps cutting a branch here and there, and possibl...

Re: The Baldy Bowl Dog Patrol
Sunday morning I decided to catch the sunrise from Baldy's summit for the first time. Went up the Baldy Bowl trail and got to the summit at 6:11 AM. Guess who was up there? Yep, the same dogs. I couldn't believe it. They had followed up a pair of campers and apparently spent the night on the summit ...

Re: Acorn Trail-Wright Mtn-Pine Mtn-Dawson-Baldy... and back
In winter, if any ice, there would be no way without being roped. Has something happened to this portion of the trail? I've only read that it's "an easy climb to Pine Mtn". It most certainly is not for a section of perhaps 300-400' vertical on the north side of Pine. Perhaps someone can s...

Re: Cucamonga Peak from San Sevaine Rd 101010
Thanks, Elwood. That information is tremendously helpful. I'm planning to do my first 50-mile fastpack covering every official trail in the Cucamonga Wilderness. I'd like to be able to jog at least half of the descent to Joe Elliot from Etiwanda, and then power walk back up with a 2 or 3 mph pace.

Thanks, JFR. According to the KMZ file, the segment is about 3.7 miles, and the trail starts at the CG.

Re: Cucamonga Peak from San Sevaine Rd 101010
I dug this thread up because I'm interested in any current information on the Cucamonga Peak Trail segment between Joe Elliot CG and Etiwanda Peak. I've never done this portion myself, but I'm planning to do it sometime this spring as part of a larger fastpacking adventure. Specifically: 1. What per...

In late August I found an abandoned tent up on Santa Anita Ridge. It appeared that someone went up there for a snuff-induced religious experience and instead found a hungry mountain lion. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/gallery.myff.org/gallery/1423717/Picture0064.jpg https://eispiraten.com/i...

Re: Self-Surgery (video link): Extraction of Yucca Needle
I enjoyed reading your TR. I'm not familiar with the Los Padres forest. The cross-country bushwhacking and steep climbs are right up my alley. However, the poodle dog picture triggered bad memories and now I'm going to have a nightmare about cutting open my knee and pulling out a poisonous purple fl...

There is a use trail that drops steeply into Sharps Canyon from Glendora Ridge Motorway just west of Glendora Mountain Rd. After the trail fades, somewhere beyond the second set of ropes, I lost my blue Samsung PL210 digital camera.

Re: Rubio Cyn. to Echo Mtn.: 07-22-2012
So, Sean, what do you think is Inspiration Point? Is point 4685 on your map (above) Inspiration Point? I consider Inspiration Point to be where Thaddeus Lowe built the ramada in 1925. The Point's original location, before the ramada, could have been summit 4714 directly NW of the ramada, which is w...

Re: Rubio Cyn. to Echo Mtn.: 07-22-2012
I think Panorama Point is an unofficial name of same vague point near what is labeled Muir Peak (4688') on some maps. Perhaps some even think 4688 is also or even should be Panorama Point or Inspiration Point. T Chester speculates it is point 4504 just ESE of 4688. It's all very unclear. My guess i...

So, what are you guys calling Panorama Pt? I don't know all the local names for things. And the Lone Tree Trail, would it follow the route I've roughly outlined here ? (Points "A" through "D") HJ I'm not aware of another name for Panorama Pt. The Lone Tree between 3681 and Panor...

Re: Rubio Cyn. to Echo Mtn.: 07-22-2012
Started at the Rubio TH and went up Lone Tree Trail to just about 3050', turned around and took the SCE Tractor Road back down. I've been restoring the Lone Tree and am glad to see people actually using it. The trail can be followed rather easily up to Panorama Pt, thus enabling many loop opportuni...

Re: INTROS - New members, introduce yourself here!
Hello, My name is Sean. I recently started taking hiking seriously about five months ago. I like challenging myself with long, difficult dayhikes. I recently hiked to San Gabriel Peak from the top of Lake Ave (Cobb Estate). I've also done Sierra Madre to Mt. Wilson, Three Points to Mt. Waterman, Cry...

Re: 6.10.11 - millard cyn to (almost) tom sloane saddle
By the way, the topo map does not agree with my memory. The trail from the bottom of the canyon and the Tom Sloane Trail do not as I recall join up first and then hit the saddle. My memory is that they join the saddle separately. At the saddle, the Old Tom Sloan trail branched off separately from t...

Re: 6.10.11 - millard cyn to (almost) tom sloane saddle
Has anyone been to TSS recently? I hiked to Tom Sloane Saddle on July 22. It's in very rough shape. I saw signs for the Bear Canyon Trail and the Tom Sloan/Mt. Lowe Rd. trail, but I didn't see a sign for the trail down to Dawn Mine. Also, it was hard to see the Tom Sloan/Mt. Lowe Rd. trail, even th...
