Re: Lonnie DeCloedt Archive

I added four of Lonnie's TRs from 2004. The WayBack Machine saved partial content for a few other hikes that year, but not enough to create a satisfying reproduction of Lonnie's gallery-based reports. After I'm done with years 2005-08, I will reconsider the miscellaneous material and possibly publis...

San Bernardino Peaks October 6, 2004 By Lonnie DeCloedt I hadn't been in the San Gorgonio Wilderness for a little while, so I headed up there to take the Forsee Creek trail to San Bernardino Peak East (10,691'), San Bernardino Peak (10,649'), and if I had time (I didn't) Anderson (10,840') and Shiel...

Yes, you can look down into it from the trail. It's very steep around that section of the ridge.

Dudes on Burnt Peak

Madison, Jeff and I celebrated the new year with a hike to Peak 3221, which is near Switzer, off the Gabrielino Trail. Lizzie Miller, in her 1895 book The True Way, referred to it as Burnt Peak. Lizzie Miller - The True Way page 213.jpg Based on minimal scouting, I thought we'd encounter a quarter-m...

Re: Cheese-orama on Peak 4408

I was just wondering because I went up the Sunday before. I left an Eispiraten sticker under one of the two rocks on the summit as a little gift but apparently it must've blown away. I noticed a few prints when we initially hit the ridge but figured they were from hunters. I didn't notice roc...

Re: Dumb Thoughts While Roaming

Often I encounter massive piles of fresh bear poop along the Idlehour Trail. I think, "Somebody's gonna step in that. I should move it off the trail." That's not the dumb thought, though. The dumb thought is: "I'll move it on the way out." It's dumb because the moment I think it,...

Is the video unlisted? The problem might also be that it's a YT "short" and not a regular video. Normally you can just drop the YT link in here and it automatically embeds.

Take a look at the Los Padres, if you want to see the future of the San Gabriels. I would say 50% of the trails in the Los Padres are in poor shape or essentially xcountry. What's saving the Gabes are the many volunteer groups who've adopted areas and restore/maintain the trails within. It seems th...

How are we supposed to communicate bump names ? I suppose they'll all be imprecisely referenced by contour lines, and if necessary narrowed down by directional info. The 8240+ immediately NW of Mt. What about point 8248? I didn't even notice that. The USGS quadrangles are split at Williamson, so that you have to look at a separate map to see 8248, and I didn't even look around while on 8244. I just grabbed the can and left. But, yeah, I have no clue what's going on at Williamson. Maybe we sho...
