Re: Reservoiir Fire @ Hwy39 Morris Dam
Also, give me a break--the "skill levels" of these guys doesn't matter. I highly doubt the average--or even very skilled--outdoors-persons has practical training on what to do during a forest fire. Skill level doesn't matter? That is an absurd statement. Someone with the knowledge of the ...

Re: Reservoiir Fire @ Hwy39 Morris Dam
Many people think that the government is some omnificent paternal entity that is responsible for their protection and are disappointed when that is not the case. In the backcountry cell phone reception is frequently nonexistent and help may be a long ways away. We all know about people who venture ...

Re: hiking barefoot
No, I don't have a problem stepping on chunks of dog poo when I hike. My concern was the ground AFTER the waste is picked up. The trail that I was referring to, the Mt. Wilson trail in Sierra Madre, reeks of dog poo for the first mile or so and I figured if you can smell it on the ground or on your ...

Re: Suggestions for Dispersed Camping Near Yosemite?
I would like to be as close as possible to "the valley(?)" so that I can hike in it during the day.
Free BLM land would be nice since I'm on a student budget but I don't mind forking up a few bucks if its close to the park.

hiking barefoot
I recently decided to give barefoot hiking a shot and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made so far. My only concern is the amount of dogs and poo on the trail I frequent. I was wondering if anyone has hiked barefoot and experienced PARASITES! ...or any other experiences hik...

Re: All Scat, All the Time
Thanks for the detailed explanation arocknoid. How would you describe the texture/look of cougar scat that's not the hair part? Also, this coyotes home is in Point Mugu if anyone was wondering. HikeUp, you hit gold! The biggest poo I have yet seen was this today. Definitely not as big as the one in ...

Re: All Scat, All the Time
Great, I'll remember this Poo Feng Shui for my future adventures.
I have to say, I love poo so much that its always slowing me down on the trail. I have so many pictures of poo that one day I'm going to make a big poo collage and frame it.

Re: All Scat, All the Time
Very interesting. That might explain the two bobcats I ran up on a few days before noticing all of the scat. It looks like they're all done with their love making because the number of scat has dramatically decreased within the past two weeks. And while we're on the subject of scat I came across som...
