Congrats to those who participated in aiding a stricken climber.
You have a lot to be proud of.
I 2nd Ryan's comment. That's what it's all about.
Happy Holidays. And here's to a speedy and complete recovery!

Re: Advice regarding Baden Powell
My 2 cents: B-P from Vincent Gap tends to ice up due to its exposure. Because of the many switchbacks -- which can lull you into a false sense of security -- the trail can be deceptively dangerous... As previously stated, San J and San G are great suggestions. Another good introduction is (surprise)...

Re: Baden-Powell to Shoemaker Road: Epic Fail
Nice to know your choices worked out! I must admit, I was MOST concerned about your footware. After being involved in a heli rescue on Baldy one winter -- when a woman training for Aconcagua (I believe) -- slipped and broke her heel, I always carry pons, just in case. And I put them on as soon as I ...

We're planning on going up Sunday, late for us. I want to drive the 2 from La Canada to Dawson apres dawn. Might ascend via Troop instead of from Vincent Gap. I feel a need to see it all for myself in the light -- contrary to some other opinions on this board -- before weather closes part of the roa...

Yeah, some class 3 rock, class 4 scree.
Well, the consequences of, you know...How many handholds remove themselves from solid looking rock under low load?
An ice ax is useful even when bare!

After you pass the Rocks beyond the wilderness sign, the trail turns towards Telegraph Peak. At the bend -- if you look to your right -- you will see a faint use trail heading very steeply up to the ridge. It is left of the gully...

Ontario Peak vs Short Cut Ridge
I'm a glutton for punishment. This was a repeat performance, a route I thought I wouldn't do again. But 'twas a beautiful day -- we timed our hike to hit the ridge right at dawn. Didn't see any sheep, though... And, interestingly, we didn't see anyone until 1/4 mile from the saddle. From then on, ho...
