Re: Mecca Hills

This is a great hike for this time of year when it's cooler. I remember taking a 2wd car out there with no problem as well. I never heard anything about car break-ins, but I agree, just go on a weekend when there will be other hikers out there.

Re: Panamint City

That looks like a really cool spot! How far is the hike in? Is any of it bike-able? The hike is about 5.5-6 miles but it is challenging. It would be too much trouble to take a bike due to all the water parts and rock. Is the trailhead at the site of the Wicht/Novak Camp? How far is that from the ma...

Yes, it was in Water Canyon at Thompson Camp. Unfortunately it wasn't apple season!

Panamint City

Panamint City had been on my to-do list for a while now and I finally got to make it out there last month. The road to the trailhead was not as bad as I was expecting and I think a normal 2wd car could have made it. There was plenty of water running through canyon which kind of surprised me, but I g...

Re: Stealing signs

Last weekend while heading up to Mt. Hawkins from Windy Gap I saw this poor looking sign post. Not sure what was once mounted to it. It does suck that people are taking these down as I usually find them helpful!

Thanks. I think I'll be going back to the Sierras in August and hopefully the mosquitoes won't be as bad.

Anyone know the conditions around this area? Is there still snow? Thinking about camping in Cooper Canyon April 6-7.

It's pretty good. Probably one of my favorites in the San Gabriels so far. I still need to hike a lot of the other peaks.

Re: South Sierra Wilderness

I still came in from the East but just a roundabout way. I'd say that area is a little less green and the trees are less dense than being on the west side, but it's still a cool area with it's own unique landscape. I really want to check out the Domeland Wilderness next, it looks pretty interesting ...

South Sierra Wilderness

Did a quick overnight backpacking trip in the South Sierra Wilderness from Kennedy Meadows to Clover Meadow. I had never been to this area before but it is pretty awesome and only about 4 hours from Orange County. You also don't need wilderness permits which is kind of nice! Trip report here: http:/...

I hiked Baldy on Monday and there were some icy spots on the Ski Hut Trail which posed a slipping hazard but other than that the trail is totally passable.
