Re: Hikemageddon - Smith Ridge Fail
I'm interested in this area as well, particularly the Joe Elliot Tree Campground. What would be the easiest way to hike there? I was thinking about going up Day Canyon but now I am not so sure.

Re: BALDY - Archive of Mt. Baldy-related Discussions
I stayed at Manker on a Friday night once to get an early start on Baldy and thought it was quite pleasant. I was there with my girlfriend and we didn't have any firewood and a guy in the campsite next to us gave us all of his since he was leaving. I never knew this place had a bad rap, I've always ...

Re: Cottonwood Lakes & New Army Pass
The mosquitos were out in force but were only really bad right before sun down. If you camped far enough away from the lakes they probably wouldn't be a problem at all.

Re: Switzer's/Cascades 7.10.11
Ah, good to know. I figured that was the case but that trail started turning into more hacking and less hiking. Would be cool to go back and camp there though; nice and secluded!Marty, from your GPS track you still had quite a ways to go beore Bear Canyon Camp.

Re: Switzer's/Cascades 7.10.11
That area is truly a gem. I hiked down to the Bear Canyon Trail about a month ago right after the 2 was reopened and the trail was in pretty bad shape. Could you tell if there has been any work done on it? I was trying to find Bear Canyon Trail Camp but failed to do so. http://anendlessroad.com/aer/...

Thanks for the report, I was wondering about that area. How good is the road to Lupine? Could I do it in a station wagon?
