Well done, guys! Wish I could have been there .. :D Did you notice the board tracks (like in the shot of Ty on the final stretch)? Re: Mt. Whitney March 10-13, 2011

.. were conditions good enough that you would have been comfortable with out a rope? Coditions were perfect! However, I would not have been comfortable without a belay. The snow was just soft enough to kick-step up and down that last 400 feet (at 40-45 degrees). Other climbers up there without rope...

Re: Mt. Whitney March 10-13, 2011

Thanks, guys! Awesome images, Fritz. A trip to remember for sure. Did you need snowshoes all the way to Iceberg? Pretty much. We put them on at the North Fork split and used them all the way to High Camp at the Cirque (12,300' or so). The snow was deep and soft in the warm weather. Otherwise we'd ha...

Mt. Whitney March 10-13, 2011

Mitch and I headed up the MR route with Kurt Wedberg and friends last Thursday. Since it was our first time on the Mountaineer's Route we figured it would be a good call to go with the company of experienced guides. It was the right decision. The road was closed with snow about a mile short of the P...

Nice TR, Burchey! I love those blower conditions.
Skis offer even more flotation than snowshoes for breaking trail ..

The Venom hybrid axe/tool is great as a secondary for steeper alpine climbing.
It placed in the top spot of the Ice Axe Round-up

Nice TR, Mitch! Glad you and Ingrid had a great time. Conditions look good! A good investment for cold weather camping are down tent booties, though the liners of your new Iverno double plastics do the trick if they stay dry. I love my toughskin for width and insulation, but it sure is heavy and bul...

Jim, what portable stove would you recommend that can integrate a simplified manual rotisserie?

We were looking to grill up this squirrel yesterday and figured you'd have a good match. Couldn't find an app for my iphone either ..

Maybe a levered kebab skewer over an Esbit fuel cube stove?
