Re: SNOW - Questions, Forecasts & Reports About Snow

The pow was so light and fluffy this weekend that snowshoes and even crampons were useless in the Gorgonio Wilderness. The light powder wouldn't compress enough to be practical for snowshoes. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/img/albums/v101/He219/photobucket/DSC05600.jpg Rob's TR t...

Good info, thanks.

The boiling time must have taken longer at low atmospheric pressures.

Nice videos simonov! I recognized you from your picture. Saw my sister and part of myself in that video on the tram up. I asked you about your monopod, it was my 36th Birthday that day. To answer your initial question, it's totally possible to board while holding a camera fairly steady .. I also hav...

Re: Canister stoves

Anyone know at what altitude a canister stove is no longer able to function? Depends on the gas mix, delivery system and the Thermodynamic properties that govern operation at lower temps and pressure. Above 10,000 ft and below 10F the operating efficiency of most compressed gas canister stoves goes...

If possible take pictures or video to document the crime.
Get a license plate for prosecution, all covertly.
Careful, use proper threat assessment.
Let Federal prosecutors do the rest.

Re: Hiker missing on San Jacinto found ..

Thanks for the link to the news story. They report that temps were "sub zero." I think they mean below freezing (or maybe they're on the Celsius scale) With the wind chill it actually was that cold on the peak in the morning. The Ranger I ran into told me just that; 'zero degrees and very...

Hiker missing on San Jacinto found ..

So I set up with my group to climb mount San Jacinto for my Birthday yesterday when we were notified and asked by SAR and Park Rangers to look for a hiker that had gone missing in the Wilderness. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/img/albums/v101/He219/dailypix/militarypix/fresh/more...

Congratulations Travis, that's quite a feat. The Nike-Hercules Surface to Air missile defense consisted of towed lauchers, part of the Greater Los Angeles Air Defense network in the 60's. Fort Mc Arthur in San Pedro has the best preserved launching areas. Any remaining visible evidence of the networ...

Nice report Taco! Ate at Baldy Lodge, got one of the biggest burgers each (don't remember name, Samantha's Bigass Burger or something). It's called Manette's Great Grubber. Had it up there a couple of weeks ago. ;) Trouble is, after a good hike my stomach shrank that I could only down a couple of bi...
