Re: Overdue TR: Mount Rainier via Disappointment Cleaver

Ready for round two? 8) We DEFINATELY need to do this next season. Wouldn't mind making it an annual thing and there are lots of routes to do. Right now it's warm and freezing is above 14K. Glaciers are really moving, rocks falling, crevasses opening wider and more rock exposed. So shoot for the ve...

Re: Overdue TR: Mount Rainier via Disappointment Cleaver

Nice photos. Did you make the summit? Yes, but the summit was an instantaneous turnabout because of whiteout conditions. Quite anticlimactic. There was one other rope team that braved it with us (I think Alpine Ascents) along with a couple of climbers that were already heading back down at the crat...

Thanks; it's moisture condensed by laminar flow as wind rushed over the stratovolcano. Very cool to watch.

Overdue TR: Mount Rainier via Disappointment Cleaver

I just got my camera back today via DHL after leaving it in my friends car during the rush to catch my plane back to John Wayne two weeks ago. Keep in mind that I had a lot of 'stuff'. My mountaineering gear alone weighed in at 74.2# on the airport scale. June 18th-21st, 2008 https://eispiraten.com/...

Nice TR. Congrats Joe! :D Keyword, acclimation. Take an extra couple of days to camp out at lower altitude and allow your body to get settled in. Exhale deeply to expel unused air and gain more fresh O2. Pace yourself and take an Aspirin if you're feeling altitude at 11.5K, yet alone 14.5K .. Good c...

Re: Ontario Peak: 06-15-2008

I think what you see in the picture is a work in progress (probably plywood) and I'd assume what they put on that will have a green finish to it - wait and see. Yep, they just peeled off the green layer of Corrugated Metal Decking and what you see is plywood sheathing of the roof structure. Decking...

Augie wrote:How far down is the wreckage from the sign?
First big chunk (center wingspar with L&R landing gear) is 50 feet down, litterally.

Then it keeps on going down scattered another 500 feet or so to the 9,100 foot level, easy to get stuck heading down canyon.

Nice video. It looked like the Trojan Marching Band on a camp or something .. Reminds me of an SC Engineering Geology field-trip we took to Landers back in '92. There were only 20 of us .. We rode an old yellow schoolbus down a dry riverbed and ended up embedded in an off-road motorcycle race. Event...
