Re: The Station Fire Thread
I assumed that Matt meant all of the ANF except for the rather sizable Santa Clara piece to the north and west of the San Gabriels. I was hoping that Matt was wrong. Alas, he was evidently right. Yes, I kind of had figured out what he had meant by southern. The area in question is indeed both south...

This opinion did not come from the iconic New York Times, or the charismatic Washington Post. The Los Angeles Times is drab, unassuming and somewhat taken for granted.

I have no opinion on how this was handled by the authorities but you have to admit that having probably half of the Angeles National Forest burn down to nothing is pretty depressing. Imagine driving up Hwy 2...it will look like a wasteland. Strawberry Peak totally burned down, Lawlor, maybe even Ve...

Let's keep politics out of this. I do not blame Kit Fox for his long political post because he die not start it, but DamOTclese has, in effect, offered a truce. Or at least a cease fire. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Re: The Station Fire Thread
The GEOMAC site has fire perimeters viewable in Google Earth (the format could be friendlier). The latest Station Fire one is frm last night. It's huge, as everyone realizes. The Star News said this morning that it is at 86000 acres.

Re: Mt. Baldy 2009-08-29
I did Baldy today too -- up Register Ridge and down the Ski Hut Trail. I hit the summit at 1 PM. It was hard to detect any sign of the Morris Fire, which is 85% contained, even though it was only a few miles to the west. However, the Station fire, further west in the La Canada area, was huge. It had...

I was on Baldy today too -- hit the summit at 1 PM. I second Richard's comment about clear air. The Morris fire was hardly noticeable. The Station fire was huge.

The map of the burn area on the Star News Web site is greatly exaggerated. I went up Ocean View a ways and the fire is nowhere near that far west on the south slopes. This map is more accurate.Hikin_Jim wrote:From the Pasadena Star News: Station Fire burns uncontrolled, more residents prepare for evacuation

Re: The Station Fire Thread
From our street near the Verdugos we can see the flames from the Station fire shooting up over the ridge above La Canada. We just took in some La Canada friends who were asked to voluntarily evacuate from their place off of ACH near the golf course. Rumors of a quiet little fire are over.
