Re: Hikers allowed guns on Mt Rainier

AlanK, don't feel you have to hold back or anything. I wasn't calling anyone out by saying what I said. I believe everyone should speak their mind, and not hold back. That's what this forum is for. I spoke my mind. I have never felt a need to hold back here. I like this forum. And yes, I know you (...

I should close this thread. This is fucking stupid . I shouldn't even reply to this bullshit. That said, I may run this forum, but it's not my forum, it belongs to you guys. Oh man! could u imagine this in the san gabriel mountains trail system? Don't tell me you've never run into someone packing while backpacking in the San Gabriels. :) Luckily for backcountry enthusiasts, the first rule of backpacking is keeping your pack as light as possible, and guns are quite heav...

Baldy Ski Hut 1-30-09

I did the good old Ski Hut route up Mt. Baldy today. The snow from a week ago is pretty well consolidated. Snowshoes would have been a waste of effort and I am glad I left them behind. There was plenty of snow the entire way. It was perfect at 7:30 AM when I started and getting pretty soft by early ...

This is a non-trip report. Call it whining if you must. I have to go out of town tomorrow, so no hiking. I wanted to get out today. I have too little time for Baldy, but consoled myself with thoughts about maximal avalanche danger and rabid crowds of people playing in the snow. I decided to se...

Mt. Wilson Trail 1-16-10

I hiked the Mt. Wilson Trail today -- a great day for it... warm early on, chilly on top, and cool on the way down. I was thinking about heading from the top to Sturdevant Camp and Mt. Zion. However, taking into account the time of my promised return home, I headed down the way I came. By coincidenc...

As Zé mentioned, the photos come from John Robinson’s The San Gabriels. It is a nice book and I also recommend getting a copy if you are interested in San Gabriel mountain history. Robinson has similar books on the other two big local ranges.
